Thermal Printer:

Using special thermal paper, no ink or ribbon is required. The print head heats a specific area of the thermal paper, making it black to form an image or text. The printing process relies entirely on the chemical reaction of the thermal paper.

 

Thermal transfer printer:

A ribbon (carbon ribbon) is required as the printing medium. The print head heats the ribbon to transfer the ink on the ribbon to ordinary paper or synthetic materials. It can be printed on a variety of materials without relying on special paper.

 

2. Print quality and durability

Thermal printing:

The print quality is medium, with a resolution of typically 200-300dpi. The printed content will fade over time (usually within 6-18 months) and is sensitive to heat, light, and chemicals, making it unsuitable for long-term archiving.

Thermal transfer printing:

It provides higher print quality with a resolution of up to 600dpi . The printed content is durable and will not fade. It can be stored for several years . It is heat-resistant, light-resistant and chemical-resistant, making it suitable for important documents and labels.

Thermal Printer:

Thermal transfer printer:

Thermal printing:

It has high requirements for storage environment (avoid light, heat and moisture ), not suitable for high temperature or humid environment , and cannot be exposed to chemical solvents after printing .

Thermal transfer printing:
